This is a Brunton TruArc 3 Base Plate Compass. It is good for reading maps as you can lay it flat and see through it. This is the ideal beginner's compass, with a clear baseplate and tool-free declination adjustment for easy reading and more convenient navigating.

These are Military style lensatic and prismatic sighting compass. Lensatic body's are made of non-magnetic metal and features luminous points. This is the type of compass that we use in the field. They come with either Tritium or Phosphoric dial markers and you can use these compass as a sighting tool to help plot your course.

These are the by far in N.S.S. crew opinion the best matches we have ever used in the field, they will burn UNDER WATER...any match that can burn under water is the best match for your pack! The UCO Stormproof Match Kit is waterproof and holds 25 matches as well as spare strikers. UCO Stormproof Matches burn for around 15 seconds, no matter how harsh conditions may become. The matches are windproof, waterproof, and even continue burning underwater. An integrated striker is attached on the side of the Match Kit, and can be replaced when worn out. The UCO Titans are by far the biggest matches we have ever seen and are almost as big as a ball point pen.

I use this Magnesium fire starting tool in the field. It is a great tool as you can use it to start even damp material on fire. One thing I did with mine is that I added a piece of hacksaw blade on a strip of leather hanging from it. You use the blade to scrape filings and also to spark the built in flint.

I also use the Strike Force fire starter, it is an awesome fire starting tool that has a cavity for holding fire tinder and it holds three of our newest versions of the Bio Fire Tinder.

These by far some of the best survival tools we have ever used! Two of our instructors used one of these saw's to cut down a tree that was over a foot in diameter. We cut the whole thing up in less than an hour and we had a weeks worth of firewood. You can attach ropes to each end of the saw and use it to cut limbs off to clear a field of fire for hunting.

The thing never went dull. I highly recommend this tool to everyone.

This is truly a multi purpose tool. It can be used to dig for food, bait, shelter and a latrine (crapper). It can also be used to chop wood and as a weapon if needed.

The Coleman Folding Shovel & Pick is three tools in one: use it as a shovel, pick, or saw. Made of strong tempered forged steel, the Folding Shovel & Pick measures 23" long when unfolded, but folds down to a compact 10" for easy packing and storing, with a positive locking collar for safety. Convenient carry pouch included.

This is truly one good piece of survival equipment. It can be used as a shelter, a tarp, ground or pack cover and even as a signal for rescue if needed. It is double sided with a reflective side that can be used to retain body heat. This Blanket is light weight and packs small.

Chappy had a friend who was backpacking with me along the "Rim of the world" in Northern California. He got separated from us and when we found him he was using his solar emergency blanket to keep warm. It may have saved his life. We never go into the wilderness now without one. You can also get these as a sleeping bag.

This is Military Trioxane fuel bars used for small wing stoves, canteen stoves or just dropped into a small vented hole in the moist rootless ground. I highly recommend these as they are light and burn hot and will cook enough to keep you moving.

Remember this when looking to buy a lantern. "IF" by chance in the future we are struck by solar flares Battery Powered Lanterns may be rendered useless. So Propane, Kerosene and or Duel Fuel Lanterns are the best bet but until that day comes remember that Battery Powered or Candle are the only safe Lanterns to use indoors and only in a well ventilated space.
